Health & Safety Policy

The purpose of The Job Shoppe's Health & Safety Policy is to ensure that all employees, visitors, and customers are aware of The Job Shoppe’s commitment to Health and Safety and protecting every employee from all work-related injuries and/or occupational diseases.

Goals

To ensure a commitment to Health and Safety is taken seriously by all employees and that it is always viewed as a priority whereby all employees are encouraged to participate in the development and ongoing maintenance of the Health and Safety Program.

Policy

The Job Shoppe and its management team are strongly committed to the health and safety of all employees. Protecting employees from injury and occupational disease is a major continuing objective of The Job Shoppe, therefore, TJS will make every effort to provide and maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to the acceptable industry standards and complying with legislation. The Job Shoppe will also expect all employees to be dedicated to reducing the risk of injury.

In keeping with the Occupational Health and Safety Act legislation, a healthy and safe workplace will be achieved by valued and active consultation and cooperation between management and employees.

The Job Shoppe, as the employer, is ultimately responsible for employee Health and Safety. Supervisors and managers will be held accountable for the health and safety of employees under their supervision. They are responsible for ensuring that machinery and equipment are safe and that employees work in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures. Employees must receive adequate training in their specific work tasks to protect their health and safety.

Every employee must protect his or her own health and safety by working in compliance with the law and with safe work practices and procedures established by the company and/or client.

Clients will be required to operate according to legislative requirements and cooperate with The Job Shoppe’s policies and procedures regarding Health and Safety.

It is in the best interest of all parties to consider Health and Safety in every activity. Commitment to Health and Safety must form an integral part of The Job Shoppe from the President/CEO to all employees.

Procedure

1. At the start of a new employee’s assignment, ensure the Health and Safety Policy is provided for review.
2. Employee’s will sign and date the Orientation Sign-Off Form indicating he/she is aware of and understands the policy.
3. Signed forms will be uploaded in the employee’s personnel file.
4. The Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed at every quarterly Health and Safety meeting.
5. Any infraction of the company’s Health and Safety Policy will result in the following resolution process:
           i. Employee will be advised of the infraction
           ii. Employee will be instructed on the appropriate action according to the policy;
           iii. Management will follow up the meeting with written documentation detailing the resolution  
           to be provided to the employee and retained for The Job Shoppe records;
           iv. Written statements or documentation will be uploaded into the associated employee’s
           personnel file; and
           v. Progressive discipline procedure will be followed if infractions continue to occur such as      
           the following:
                       1. Written warning
                       2. Second written warning
                      3. Termination

However, The Job Shoppe retains the right to terminate employment as required.

Roles and Responsibilities

Employers

● Ensure the suggested equipment, materials and protective devices are available.
● Ensure the equipment, materials and protective devices are kept in good working condition, employees are trained correctly and it is being utilized appropriately.
● Confirm the suggested safety measures and procedures are followed within all worksites.
● If required during a medical emergency, for the purpose of diagnosis or treatment, provide any
information requested by a legally qualified medical practitioner or other such persons as required.
● When appointing a supervisor, appoint a competent person.
● Appoint a person in authority or supervisor to oversee any employee(s) in positions which involve hazards related to the handling, storage, use, disposal and transport of any article, device, equipment, or a biological, chemical or physical agent.
● Provide assistance and co-operation to the JHSC and Health and Safety Representative as they carry out any of their functions.
● Ensure that all employees meet the minimum age requirement set out by OHSA and The Job Shoppe insurance policy.
● Ensure a person who is under age is not permitted to be in or about a workplace.
● Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of an employee.
● Ensure a copy of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and any accompanying material is posted in the workplace outlining the rights, responsibilities and duties of employees.
● Prepare and review the written Occupational Health and Safety Policy quarterly and develop and maintain the Program for implementation.
● Ensure the Occupational Health and Safety Policy is posted in a visible location within the workplace.
● Provide to the committee or to a Health and Safety Representative the results of any reports that concern the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
● Advise employees of the results of any reports referred to in the previous point and if requested, provide copies in writing.
● Establish and maintain an Occupational Health Service for employees as required.
● Provide employees with written instruction regarding the measures and procedures that will be taken for the protection of the employee within the workplace.
● Ensure appropriate training is available for employees, supervisors and committee members as required.

Management


● Ensure that the employee works in the manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by the OHSA and regulations.
● Ensure that the employee uses or wears the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the
employee’s employer requires to be used or worn.
● Advise the employee of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health or safety of the employee of which the supervisor is aware.
● Where so prescribed, provide the employee with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for protection of the employee.
● Ensure that workplace inspections are completed on a monthly basis, reviewed and posted as required.
● Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of the employee.

Employees

● Work in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA and the regulations.
● Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the employer requires to be used or worn.
● Report to his/her employer or supervisor the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective device of which the employee is aware and which may endanger himself/herself or another employee.
● Report to his/her employer or supervisor any contravention of the OHSA or the regulations or the
existence of any hazard of which he/she knows.


Clients

● Ensure that the machine, device, tool or equipment is in good working condition.
● Ensure that the machine, device, tool or equipment complies with the OHSA and the associated
regulations.
● Ensure if it is the person’s responsibility under the rental, leasing or similar arrangement to do so, that the machine, device, tool or equipment is maintained in good working condition.
● Ensure that the supervisors appointed are competent to oversee Job Shoppe employees.
